  • Led project team in the development of the No Smoking Room , a web-based health intervention for early adolescent females and a companion online curriculum for pediatricians to enhance tobacco counseling with this population. This curriculum is based at the Pediatrics in Practice Teaching and Learning Center.
  • Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, led multidisciplinary team in the creation of a health professional e-learning program entitled Pediatrics in Practice Teaching and Learning Center. Authored interactive curriculum modules, presented in the Teaching Center, focusing on core teaching strategies to enhance child health promotion instruction, including reflective exercise, case teaching, buzz group, brainstorming and mini-presentation strategies. Bore primary project responsibilities ranging from earliest development of site’s conceptual framework and instructional design, to the development and editing of core content, pilot testing, subsequent content refinements and enhancements, and overall program evaluation plan.
  • Conceptualized and authored the development of the Online Health Promotion Course (OHPC), presented in the Learning Center, consisting of a series of 8 different health promotion modules on topics related to: advocacy, communication, education, family-centered culturally responsive care, health, health promotion, partnership building, time management.
  • Authored interactive oral health promotion modules on topics such as health, partnership building and family-centered communication as part of a large scale randomized control study titled, “The Implementation of Bright Futures Concepts in Oral Health into Pediatric Residency Continuity Practices.” Wrote and directed a video script demonstrating an effective partnership between a primary care physician and family around oral health information presented in the curriculum. This curriculum will be completed by 300 residents representing 33 continuity practices across the country. Spearheaded faculty development to standardize the intervention.
  • Contributed to writing of peer-reviewed articles related to the Pediatrics in Practice program and preliminary findings, and presented at national meetings such as the American Public Health Association (APHA).
  • Co-authored successfully awarded proposals including: The Pediatrics in Practice Teaching and Learning Center (Maternal and Child Health Bureau, Health Resources and Services Administration) and Implementation of Bright Futures Concepts in Oral Health into Pediatric Residency Continuity Practices (Maternal and Child Health Bureau, Health Resources and Services Administration). Worked as lead author on the Pediatrics in Practice for Professionals, Patients and their Families: Fostering Smoking Prevention and Cessation for Improved Health (Pfizer, Inc.).

Community-Campus Partnerships for Health

  • Co-Edited Faculty Toolkit for Service-Learning in Higher Education. This Toolkit is designed to aid faculty in every step of planning, designing, and implementing service-learning programs into their curriculum and institutions as well as program evaluation and assessment.
  • Produced and edited Celebrating a Decade of Impact anniversary report to mark the organization’s 10th anniversary. Worked with graphic designer and facilitated production.
  • Spearheaded major curriculum projects targeting health professional faculty, student and community leaders, including the development of Advancing the Healthy People 2010 Objectives Through Community-Based Education: A Curriculum Planning Guide and A Toolkit for Health Professional Faculty, Students and Community Leaders Committed to Achieving the Nation’s Health Objectives Through Community-Campus Partnerships. Conducted and facilitated large group trainings for diverse audiences utilizing these products as training tools.
  • Authored a series of fact sheets provided to the National Clearinghouse on Service-Learning addressing key topic areas, including but not limited to: funding of community-based education, interdisciplinary service-learning, reflection, and tools and methods for evaluation.
  • Acted as co-director in the research of the Urban Health Initiative based at the New York Academy of Medicine. Developed survey instruments, conducted focus group interviews with medical students and institutional leaders including deans and provosts, provided data analysis, and co-authored final report to the funder.
